Project
Harmonious Garden Design
Turning a small cottage garden into a relaxing, multi-functional space around a new garden building.
- Location:
- Axminster
The project brief was to create a harmonious garden design to fit with a newly built garden studio. The client wanted a beautiful, multi-use garden space to entertain and relax with low-maintenance planting. Key considerations were to not block light to the new studio and to have plants that complement the cedar cladding.
Pressure washing the existing natural stone patio meant the slabs looked new without the cost of replacement. This then matched well with the new additional seating area we created at the bottom of the garden using natural limestone slabs.
By replacing the fencing with new feather boards and posts meant the tired and rotted parts would not detract from the garden improvements. We also installed new curved metal edging to create well-defined lawn edges.
Despite there being a small number of plants, they balance perfectly with the hard landscaping. We chose plants and materials to create a feeling of simplicity and calmness. This included plants not just for their beauty but also for scent and movement such as herbs and grasses, respectively.
Our client was extremely pleased with the overall improvements to their garden. We have had the pleasure of seeing the garden flourish as we've been back to do occasional maintenance sessions.
