We offer hedge trimming, cutting and restoration as well as removal and planting. So if your hedge has become too big and unruly or is thin with gaps, we can provide the advice and care needed.
Our Hedge Care Services

Hedge Planting
Not sure which plants would be best to use as hedging?
Or are you looking for something a bit different to traditional hedging?
We appreciate people want boundaries and screening for several reasons. Whether it's for privacy, definition, wildlife or adding interest to your garden space, we can help you achieve what you want.

Hedge Cutting
Whether you want your hedges pruned for the formal look or something more natural looking, we use a wide variety of machinery and equipment to ensure your hedge and shrubs look neat and tidy.
With all our work, we're conscious of looking after the environment and wildlife. Therefore, we always check for nesting birds before work starts and if any nests are found to be in use we postpone until the nest is no longer in use.

Screening
We can supply pleached trees to screen certain views, and advise on best plants for your budget and space. We have contacts with plant nurseries across the southwest and can provide high-quality hedging plants of all varieties and sizes , for instant results.
Alternatively, for other boundary and screening options, see our Fencing section.
Restoration
A healthy hedge should be one full of fresh growth each year, whilst also providing abundant flowers and berries. Without proper annual maintenance, hedges can become clogged with old wood and end up growing over boundaries and restricting access. With selective pruning of older branches, we can restore your hedges to their optimum size, whilst encouraging fresh growth, increased light and airflow essential for plant health, wildlife and screening.
Each plant and tree grows and responds differently to pruning, but with our expert knowledge, we can advise whether a hard prune, two-stage prune or re-planting is needed for your hedges and shrubs. The Winter months offer the best season to assess, restore and fill any gaps with replanting.
Hedge Removal
When a hedge has become too old, diseased or you'd just like a different species that offers something new, Hartnell Gardens offer a hedge removal and replanting service. To create the best start for a new hedge, we will remove the old plants and stumps with mechanical means, and can even dispose of the waste or arrange a skip hire.
Feeding
We also supply bulk deliveries of rich compost and fertilisers in Autumn and Winter to keep your hedges and shrubs looking good throughout the year.
Pests and Diseases
With our extensive knowledge of plant health requirements, we can offer solutions for effective control of pests, diseases and deficiencies using natural biological methods where possible or sourcing visually similar, disease resistant replacement plants and trees.
